Spain: Tasty Tapas

Spain: Tasty Tapas

I am a finger-food kind of gal. I’d rather order an array of appetizers than a main dish any day. So, as you can imagine, the Spanish tradition of “tapas” are my idea of perfect food — which basically makes Spain my perfect place.

We experienced so many different wonderful tapa dishes while traveling in Costa del Sol. While, I can’t even being to choose a favorite, I do think I can offer up my top five — the five I’ll be making for the “Tapas Tasting” I am planning for my friends who want to hear all about our trip and will be kind enough to sit through all my 300 or so pictures…

Here is the menu I’ve got in mind:

Shrimp Tapas
  • Shrimp and mushrooms in a garlic cream sauce over toasted brown bread. (Yes. It is as good as it looks. Actually, it’s better. Like sigh-out-loud good.)
  • Baguette Tapas
    • Start with a baguette and work your way up. Here we have egg topped with a roasted green chile, and a tomato, cheese, and bacon concoction. Both were divine!
Tuna Tataki
  • I know what you are thinking. Tuna Tataki is something you’d find in a sushi restaurant. And, you are right. BUT, we had it in Spain twice — once as a salad, and again as the Tapa pictured above. Fresh seafood is fresh seafood. Whether you are in Spain or at a swanky LA sushi bar!}
Shrimp & Artichoke Skewers
  • Skewers are a great way to serve Tapas. Besides the devine shrimp and artichoke skewers {which were covered in garlic. YUM}, we enjoyed lamb and chicken skewers, as well.
Cod Croquettes
  • These little poppers of fried cod were ah-maz-ing. We dipped them in vinegar. So good. So, so good.

So, there you have it — My “Tasty Tapas” picks from Costa del Sol, Spain.  With such delicious varieties of seafood available in the region, it’s no surprise that it dominated my list!

Yummy! Thank you so much for this post Tiffany. When I went to Italy my biggest problem was that I didn't know what to order off the menu. This is such a great resource for tourists! ~ Laurie

Tapas are one of the things I thoroughly enjoyed when I was in Spain. And I'm with you with rather having an array of little plates than the traditional entree meal. I really wish tapas restaurants would catch on here in the US. It's too far to travel to Spain when I get a craving.

Love the appetizer idea also. I would rather get a plate full of samples any time. The food looks incredible. Would have loved to have some myself.
